Lucas Kemmerling
Ecology & Natural Resources Graduate Student
Welcome! I am currently an Ecology and Natural Resources graduate student at the Center for Earth and Environmental Sciences at SUNY Plattsburgh under the advisement of Dr. Mary Alldred. My research focuses on the role of small mitigation wetlands in supporting fall migrating waterfowl. Broadly, my research interests are in wetland ecology, restoration ecology, wildlife ecology, and ecosystem services. Outside of my research, I enjoy playing the banjo, cooking, and all things outdoors.
Education
Expected 2024
Masters of Science
SUNY Plattsburgh
In the spring of 2023, I began pursuing an M.S. in Ecology and Natural Resources at SUNY Plattsburgh conducting research under the guidance of Dr. Mary Alldred. My research explores the role of small mitigation wetlands in supporting fall migrating waterfowl. In addition my research explores evaluating wetland mitigation success using energetic carrying capacity for waterfowl as a metric of wetland function. 2021
Bachelors of Science
Binghamton University
I graduated in the spring of 2021 from Binghamton University with a B.S. in Mechanical Engineering. During my attendance I was able to develop my skills as a mathematician, engineer, and scientist. For my capstone I led a project that found a sustainable use for the by product of the heating process on campus. My team and I developed a concrete that utilized wood fly ash as a substitute for cement due to its chemical similarities.
